HOW PARENTS CAN HELP WITH HOMEWORK

Homework has been a part of learner’s lives since the beginning of formal schooling. Research has shown that parent involvement can have either a positive or negative impact on the value of homework. It can enhance parent’s appreciation of education. Homework can give parents the opportunity to express positive attitudes about the value of success in school. If a child is having difficulty with homework, parents should become involved by paying close attention. Homework can be an effective way for learners to improve their learning and for parents to communicate their appreciation of schooling.

EDUCATION IS SERIOUS

You as a parent cannot and should not endeavour to protect your child from all the bumps along the road of life. They need to take responsibility for their work (or lack thereof). We have learners attending detention for homework and class work not done. If you are the parent of such a child, the detention is not enough. You need to take additional, punitive steps against your child. Similarly, please do not bring things to school that the child has left at home. The child must quickly learn that you will not fetch and carry for them. They must accept the consequences of their oversights.

EXAMS – TERM 2

In Term 2 we do not write Cycle Test on Tuesdays. We do however write Exams towards the end of Term 2. Parents must ensure that learners do all the homework and classwork on a daily basis. Please draw up a management plan by which your child must revise the work completed weekly and even daily. Please check work and books regularly.

CLOSING TIMES FOR TERM 2

Just a reminder to parents that due to the fact that we are writing exams in Term 2 the school will close at 13:30 every Tuesday for the Senior Phase learners (grade 4 – 7). No Cycle Tests will be written.
