Parenting: “The most important thing that parents can teach their children is how to get along without them”.James A Clark

EDUCATION

The above quote applies. In order to grow, develop, mature and build character, children need to encounter adversity and take “a few knocks” along the way. They sometimes need to solve problems without parental interference. The improvement in their social skills is dependent on their working out relationships for themselves, especially relationships within the school. Too many parents go to extraordinary lengths to “smooth the path” for their children. Do not try to protect them from every conceivable obstacle that arises – this makes them dependent, needy and unable to face and conquer the situations that will confront them from time to time. Parents need to be watchful, but interfere/assist only when absolutely necessary.

AGM

The AGM will take place on Wednesday 22 October at 19:00 in the school hall. A reminder to parents that we need a quorum of at least 15% (± 214 parents) in order to go ahead on the 22 October 2014.

SPECIAL REQUEST

If any parents are able to donate flash drives for the Grade 4 – 7 educators it would be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL CLOSING TERM 3

School will close at 12:00 on Friday 3 October. Please ensure that your child leaves school immediately after school closing. Learner reports will be handed to learners at this time. School will re-open for Term 4 on Monday 13 October.

CLOSING TIME FOR TUESDAYS – TERM 4

As from TUESDAY 14 OCTOBER the school will close every Tuesday at 13:30 for the Senior Phase (Grade 4 – 7). This is due to the fact that we are not writing Cycle Test this term. The Grade 1s and 2s will finish at 13:00 and the Grade 3s at 13:30 as usual.

COMMUNICATION – NEWSLETTER, ETC.

It is imperative that parents ask their children for the Newsletter and any other letters that are distributed by the school. These letters contain valuable organisational information in order for the school to run smoothly and to provide the best education possible for every learner. I know for a fact that learners don’t always hand these letters to their parents because in many cases, it does not suit them to do so. So, therefore I am requesting parents to please ask for any letters distributed to learners. These letters also appear on our Website and on the School Communicator. Thank you for your co-operation.

EXTRA MURAL ACTIVITIES

ALL Extra Mural Activities have finished, unless otherwise arranged by the various stakeholders. In order to start preparing for the fourth term sporting codes Ms Michel will start with swimming fitness and Mr Niehaus will start with cricket for Grades 4 – 7. This is not compulsory however we encourage learners to attend.

CONGRATULATIONS

To Kristin Keenan who has received her Junior Colours for Gymnastics and will be representing central Gauteng at the South African National Gym Games in October.

FELLOW LEARNERS’ PROPERTY

This is an ongoing problem at the school and I am appealing to parents to have a word with their children regarding these very serious matters:

  • Learners may NOT tamper with, damage or hide away another learner’s property.
  • Learner may NOT take or use another learner’s property without permission. Each learner must have their own stationery and equipment.
  • Vandalism or meddling with another property is a serious offence.

I would really appreciate it if you could assist us in this serious matter. Thank you!

SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT

All learners are to abide by the provisions of the Code of Conduct and it is the parents’ responsibility to ensure compliance. Copies of the Code are available from the school secretary.

SCHOOL RULES

Classrooms are out of bounds unless the educator is present or has given learners permission to be in the classroom.

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Parents must ensure that they respect the smoke-free status of the school and do not smoke within the school boundaries.

LEARNER RESPONSIBILITIES

Learners undertake to refrain from and report acts of vandalism or any other damage to or misuse of school property.

EDUCATOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Educators must ensure that they abide by the rules, regulations and procedures set out by the school and the GDE authorities.
