EDUCATION

Lack of success is often the cumulative result of a number of small, on-going omissions or continuous neglect of work. A number of learners are habitually being referred to the Friday detention class for this consistent neglect of work. The parents of these learners ignore these signs at their peril as learners who do not produce the required work cannot be assessed and, as a result may be in serious danger of not progressing to the next grade at year end.

I appeal to these parents to address this issue with their children as a matter of urgency. Learners have to do the detentions in a Friday. If parents ensure that learners work and behave consistently there would be no need for them to attend detention.

ANNUAL NATIONAL ASSESSMENT

The 2015 cycle of Annual National Assessment will be administered in all public and designated independent schools from 15 – 18 September. During this period ALL learners in Grade 1 – 7 will write nationally set tests in English and Mathematics. The results will be used to report progress related to achieving goals set in the action plan 2014 towards schooling 2025.
