EDUCATION IS SERIOUS

Discipline:  “Discipline is not punishment, it is education”.  The development of acceptable behaviour and positive attitude in children are learned behaviours.  So, too, are unacceptable behaviour and poor attitude.  It is the duty and responsibility of parents in the home environment to decide which way they are going to go.  Imagine the dizzy heights learners would achieve if all learners were well behaved, well mannered, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.  Imagine what the educator could achieve in such a classroom.  Are you, as the parent, constantly directing your child along the first mentioned path or are you sending ill-disciplined children with a “don’t care” attitude into the school?  Poor behaviour/attitude can be unlearned, but it takes on-going effort by the parent – nagging, monitoring, reprimanding and rewarding positive changes.  Discipline is a critical aspect of the child’s upbringing and neglect thereof has extremely serious consequences as we, as a society, are beginning to see.  Please take your children in hand and lead them purposefully towards a bring future.
