Children who are overweight or obese are at greater risk for cardiovascular disease, bone and joint problems, sleep apnoea and poor self esteem, as well as long term health problems in adulthood. While childhood obesity doesn’t always lead to obesity in adulthood, it does raise the risk dramatically.  The majority of children who are overweight during preschool and Primary School are still overweight as they enter their teens. Most kids do not outgrow the problem. Addressing weight problems in children requires a co-ordinated plan of physical activity and healthy nutrition. Unless directed by your child’s doctor though, the treatment for childhood obesity is not weight loss. The goal should be to slow or halt weight gain, thereby allowing your child to grow into his or her ideal weight.

Friday 15 February:  Grades 4 – 6:  Life Skills

Wednesday 20 February: Grade 7:  EMS

The Friday Group Test is very important as it makes up in Grade 4 – 6, 25% and in Grade 7, 60% of the term/year mark.  Learners must attend school on Fridays to write the weekly Group Test.

A sincere thanks to all parents who attended the Information Evenings.  I sincerely hope that all evenings across the Grades were informative and that we are going to experience a successful year.

School will start at 07:30

Punctuality in the mornings is essential for all learners.

Grade 1 & 2 Mon – Fri:  13:00

Grade 3 Mon – Thurs:  13:30

Grade 3 Fri:  13:00

Grades 4 – 7:  14:00

It is a GDE requirement that we have a “late comers” register in which we record the name of learners arriving late.  Our Code of Conduct also states that learners should be punctual on a daily basis in order to avoid disruptions in class as teaching starts immediately.  However I am fully aware of the traffic volumes sometimes in the morning.  I urge parents to make a concerted effort to get children to school on time.  Your co-operation in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

Just a reminder to parents that the new board shorts are not to be used as swimming costumes.  The school has an OFFICIAL school costume for Phys Ed and Interschool Galas.  Your co-operation in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
